Known around the world as one of L.A.’s quintessential bands, The Doors formed in 1965 after UCLA alums, singer Jim Morrison and keyboardist Ray Manzarek, met in Venice Beach. As The Doors, the quartet of Morrison, Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore became one of the best-selling bands in history. Regarded as one of the most influential rock acts of the 1960s, The Doors have been listed by many critics and magazines as one of the greatest music acts of all time. The band's eponymous debut album, L.A. Woman, and Strange Days were listed in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The Doors were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

"Day of the Doors" (Jan. 4, 2017)

Fifty years to the day of the release of The Doors debut album, Jan. 4 was declared “Day of The Doors” in the City of Los Angeles. The proclamation was made by Councilmember Mike Bonin during a public event at the intersection of Pacific and Windward Avenues, the location of the iconic “Venice” sign. Founding Doors members, John Densmore and Robby Krieger were on hand at the event along with family members of the late Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison.
