Lauren Ruth Ward Nods to Jim Morrison With Rainbow-Themed Videos for 'Riders on the Storm' & 'Soul Kitchen'

LA-based singer and songwriter Lauren Ruth Ward and collaborator Eduardo Rivera released a colorful project that pays homage to The Doors. In honor of Jim Morrison’s 75th birthday, Ward recorded the seven-track Doors cover album Happy Birthday Jim, which includes original music videos for each song, unveiled each day this week.

Some of the songs covered include “L.A. Woman,” “Soul Kitchen,” “Break on Through,” “Love Street” and “Riders on the Storm.” Ward explained that each song was given one of the six colors of the rainbow and an additional black-and-white aesthetic that would be represented in each individual video.

Ward gave each of the videographer complete freedom on their visuals. “The first time I will see these videos are on their release date with the rest of YouTube land,” Ward said. “At first, I saw it as a way to test my will of letting go of control of my art, but quickly remembered the artists creating the videos are geniuses and I’m just a lucky bastard.”

“The Doors were a band that had the uncanny ability to weave between genres and attitudes,” Rivera said. “Diving into their catalog for this project was not only a wonderful challenge, but enlightening.”
